Last night I was moved as I heard the late Reinhard Bonnke passionately encourage every believer to: “Fan the flame of the Holy Spirit and get on fire for God.”
I grew up on a farm in western Victoria. To keep us warm I was often told to, “Stoke the fire or get more wood burning”. Unfortunately, I was bitten by a snake while gathering wood!
After an anti-venom injection, I was kept in hospital overnight as the nurses needed to keep me awake lest I went into a coma. The devil will do whatever is necessary to keep us from being passionately living for God. We are protected by the fire of God against the enemies’ schemes – it’s our anti-venom!
Reinhard Bonnke encourages us“Fan the flame of the Holy Spirit and get on fire for God”, reminded me of what I found in my late mother’s Bible. She had written: “There is nothing that a lukewarm church needs more today than for believers to be filled with the Holy Spirit. To be truly set aflame for God”.
Fire will go out unless you do three things; 1) keep the draft open 2) keep the ashes cleaned out 3) put on more fuel.Spiritually I have a fire of my own
Luke 3:16 says, “He will baptise with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” I am to keep the draft open by praying regularly and watching God open His windows of blessing on my life.
I am to keep the ashes out by not dwelling on the past. Then I must add fuel by depending on God’s amazing promises.Fire is a wonderful picture of the work of the Holy Spirit in at least three ways. The Holy Spirit brings God’s presence and power. God’s passion, and God’s purity. Without the fire of God, we can easily fall asleep to the cries of those around us.
Prayer: Father God let Your mighty presence be released in my life, to empower me, purify me, consume me , deliver me and protect me. Amen
