Do struggle to see in the Spirit and hear God’s voice? This prayer to remove an invisible veil from our spiritual eyes and ears could be your answer.
The word ‘veil’ stood out to me as I read 2 Corinthians 3:16 this week. “The moment one turns to the Lord with an open heart, the veil is lifted and they see.”
I was reminded of an encounter I had some years ago when I asked God to forgive me of my self-righteousness – from being right in my own eyes. It was like a veil in the spiritual realm was lifted off my eyes and immediately I could see things in my life that I couldn’t see before, such as my independence – sometimes wanting to do my own thing, in my own strength and my unbelief – reasoning things out instead of totally trusting God.
2 Corinthians 3:18 goes onto say: ‘with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus.’ I can testify to the difference it has made in my life having had that veil removed!
In ministering to others I’ve discovered that many want to have a closer walk with God but fail to draw near due to an invisible veil over their eyes and ears. As a result, they fail to take hold of all that Jesus has done for them on the Cross. They know intellectually that God has forgiven them and given them a robe of righteousness.
Inner shame produces a hardened heart
However, they have draped over God’s gift a cloak of shame (low self-esteem). I’m sure that we all at some stage or other have hidden behind a veil of inner shame which has produced a hardened heart! God’s promise to us all is: ‘the moment one turns to the Lord with an open heart, the veil is lifted, and we see’. (2 Corinthians 3:14 & 16)
Do you want to see what God wants you to do and hear more clearly what he is saying? The good news is we all can: ‘For he (Jesus) has dedicated a new, life-giving way for us to approach God. For just as the veil was torn in two, Jesus’ body was torn to give us free and fresh access to him!’ (Hebrews 10:20 TPT)
Let’s not be satisfied with anything less than God’s best for us! ‘For with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus!’
Prayer to remove an invisible veil from our spiritual eyes and ears:
Thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross and doing away with the veil between us. Please forgive me for my …………. (e.g. self-righteousness, independence, fear, unbelief, deception). Remove the veil that has caused my heart to be hardened and hindered me from hearing and seeing what You want me to become and do. Help me to clearly understand Your Word and obey it. I want to become more like You, Jesus, radiating Your glory to a desperate world. In Your name Jesus I pray. Amen
