What is the anointing? The anointing is the presence of God by the Holy Spirit. Do I need the anointing of God to live a victorious Christian life? The answer will be life-changing.

During the children of Israel’s journey through the wilderness, God provided “a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way and by night a pillar of fire to give them light.” The cloud visibly represented God’s presence.

However, the children of Israel complained and became complacent and indifferent to God’s presence. We can become indifferent and complacent when it come to the presence of God. Is that your experience?

I’m going to share with you how vital God’s presence, the anointing of God, is in living a victorious Christian life. To begin with we must have an understanding of what the anointing is.

What is the anointing? Do I need the anointing of God?

Firstly, the anointing is the presence of God by the Holy Spirit.

The basic meaning of the Bible word “anoint” is “to pour on, smear all over or rub into.” It is like the smearing or rubbing on of perfume which permeated your whole natural being.
The Holy Spirit is a person; his personality and character are expressed in and through you as you go about your day.

Listen to 2 Corinthians 2:14 in the Amplified Bible. It says, “Thanks be to God, Who in Christ (the anointed One) always leads us in triumph (as trophies of Christ’s victory) and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere.”

Therefore, the anointing is the expression of God’s character, His love, in and through us. You can’t generate the true expression God’s love without the anointing. It is supernatural.

Charles Finney is known to have said, “Without any expectation, the Holy Spirit descended on me in a manner that seemed to go through my body and soul. I could feel the impression like a wave of electricity going through and through me. Indeed, it seemed to come in waves of liquid love – I couldn’t express it in any other way. It seemed to be the very breath of God.”

Secondly, the anointing, as described in the Bible, can be defined as “God on flesh doing those things that flesh cannot do.”

The anointing is God’s power given to you to get results in your life – it guarantees victory because it allows you to operate supernaturally and bring transformation in your life.

Romans 5:17 shares with us God’s promise to all of his children! It says, “Those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness WILL REIGN IN LIFE through the One, Jesus Christ.”

Bill Johnson defines grace as working from God’s favour with the presence and power of God being outworked in our lives.

Many work to gain favor with God rather than working from favor.

It is very liberating when you understand that you do not have to earn God’s acceptance and love.

I had a vision showing Jesus standing next to a beautiful red car. He was watching Christians work tirelessly, day after day and week after week polishing the car. They were making so much noise chatting and rubbing the car that they couldn’t hear Jesus repeatedly say, “If you would only allow me into the driver’s seat, we can go for a ride and have so much fun together.” Consequently the car went nowhere. Jesus stood by watching with compassion as tired Christians fell exhausted and crawled away unnoticed and confused, while others stepped in to take their place.

As we see we can be so busy working to attain by self-effort, doing what we think God wants, instead of obtaining God’s power that is available to us and letting Him work through us!

Thirdly, the anointing comes when God impregnates your natural being with His supernatural power.

– It is in order to perform supernatural acts – performing miracles – doing only what God can do.

As we saw in Romans 5:17, “Those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

Jesus told us how to pray in Matthew 6:10. He told us to declare when praying, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” The word “say” can be translated “declare”.

In God’s Presence, (in the Kingdom of Heaven environment), light dispels darkness so that the superior reality of the Kingdom of Heaven displaces the inferior kingdom of this world.

The Kingdom of God and God’s presence are synonymous! We carry within and around us God’s presence.

As Luke 17:21 in the Amplified says, “Behold the kingdom of God is within you (in your hearts) and among you (around you).”

Picture a bubble around you which represents God’s Kingdom – His presence! Whatever comes your way that is not allowed in Heaven, whether it is sickness or some fear, you can tell it to leave because it is not part of God’s Kingdom that reigns within and around you!

Be assured that when people come into contact with the anointing – with the very presence of God, lives are changed, people are healed and demons flee.

Fourthly, the anointing of the Holy Spirit brings revelation.

Without the anointing, there is no revelation. 1 Corinthians 2:4 says, “My messages were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the (Holy) Spirit and power of God, operating on me.

Verse 7, “What we are setting forth is a wisdom of God once hidden (from the human understanding) and now revealed to us by God – (that wisdom) which God devised and decreed before the ages for our glorification (to lift us up into the glory of His presence).”

When we are caught in a religious mode, the Word of God doesn’t bring revelation, it just brings religion. Revelation by the Holy Spirit brings you from where you are at, to where you need to be – into the very presence of God.

Revelation reveals something from God that will lead us to a higher level. If it doesn’t do that then it only produces religion in people. We will then follow rules and regulations rather than revelation.

The Bible says, “God is light!” He is the One who brings revelation. The anointing takes you from information to  participation.

So before reading or studying God’s Word, pray something like this:

“Dear Heavenly Father, your Word tells me to pray, ‘Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven’.

Lord, it is Your will in Heaven that I receive revelation knowledge of Your Word and not just head knowledge. Therefore I forbid the powers of darkness from preventing me from receiving revelation. In Jesus’ Name I ask it. Amen.”
